Frequently Asked Questions

Services & Capabilities

What does Bill Hinkson Design do?
Bill Hinkson Design specializes in motion graphics, 3D animation, and video production that bring ideas to life from concept and design to final delivery. Projects range from broadcast packages and sizzle reels to brand explainers, interactive pieces, and product videos.

What industries do you work with?
I’ve partnered with a wide range of clients from media networks and creative agencies to tech startups, healthcare, and education. Whether it’s a national campaign or an internal communications piece, the goal is always the same: create visuals that connect and communicate with impact.

Do you handle both design and animation?
Yes. I can take a project from initial storyboard and style frames through animation, compositing, and sound design. Some clients come to me with finished designs; others rely on me to establish the look and motion from the ground up.

Process & Workflow

How does a typical project start?
Everything begins with a conversation. Once I understand your story, audience, and goals, I’ll provide an outline, visual direction, and a timeline. When the creative is approved, production moves efficiently through design, animation, and final delivery.

Do you collaborate with other teams or studios?
Absolutely. I often work with creative directors, editors, producers, and other artists either as a lead animator or as part of a larger motion team. Clear communication and adaptability are key to seamless collaboration.

Can you work remotely?
Yes. Most of my work is done remotely with clients across the U.S. and abroad. File sharing, review cycles, and real-time updates make it easy to stay aligned no matter where you’re located.

Pricing & Estimates

How do you price your projects?
Projects are typically estimated based on scope, style, and complexity. A good rule of thumb: the design phase makes up about two-fifths of the total cost, with animation and finishing comprising the rest.

If you already have designs ready, costs are lower and timelines are shorter. I can provide quick estimates once I understand your deliverables and deadlines.

Do you offer flat-rate or hourly pricing?
Both. For well-defined projects, I often quote a flat rate. For evolving creative or open-ended collaborations, hourly billing ensures flexibility and transparency.

What’s your minimum project size?
Budgets vary, but most full-animation projects begin around $3,000–$5,000. Smaller edit-only or retouching jobs can be scoped on request.

Revisions & Delivery

How many rounds of revisions are included?
Typically, two rounds of revisions per phase (design and animation). I aim to get things right early by establishing a clear visual direction — saving time and cost later in the process.

How do you deliver final files?
Final deliverables are provided in the format you need; QuickTime, MP4, ProRes, or image sequences.

Can you handle rush jobs?
Yes, within reason. I’ve been called “The Iceman” for staying cool under pressure, but I’ll always be upfront about what’s achievable within your timeline.

Technical & File Formats

What software do you use?
My core toolset includes Cinema 4D, After Effects, Redshift, Premiere, Resolve, and Photoshop, along with supporting tools like Illustrator, Audition, and various motion plug-ins. I can adapt to most production pipelines or file handoffs.

Can you match an existing brand or motion style?
Yes. I’m experienced in aligning motion language and visual identity with brand guidelines — whether you’re continuing an established look or building something new.

What resolution or aspect ratios can you deliver?
Anything from 4K broadcast to vertical social formats to multiscreen, multi 4k show projections. Just let me know where the content will live, and I’ll design accordingly.

Collaboration & Communication

How do we stay in touch during a project?
Email and Slack are most common for daily updates, but I also use Frame.io and DropBox Review for creative reviews. My goal is to make collaboration simple and efficient.

Do you work under NDAs?
Yes. Many of my projects are confidential, especially for agency and corporate clients. NDAs are welcomed and respected.
